Bayan Canada member organization in Montreal, the Filipino Workers Support Group (FWSG) held a successful event on Sunday, July 5, 2009. This year, the annual FWSG pic-nic at Mckenzie Park highlighted the group’s participation in the May, 2009 International Solidarity Affair (ISA) of the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) in the Philippines. Organizers also talked about the exemplary life of Ka Wilson, the former secretary general of the KMU who recently passed away (please see the following link to read Canada’s statement: PSNC – Message on the death of ka Wilson). The organizers collected donations to help Ka Wilson’s family and the KMU with the cost related to his burial and memorial services.
FWSG guest, Robin Alexander, International Affairs Director of the United Electrical Workers of America also said a few words and shared her experience as a participant in the ISA. This year, FWSG organized to send Novie Sambat as their official representative to the ISA last May.
Everyone was in high spirits and committed to advancing the organizing work of FWSG. New members signed on while current members promised to bring in new contacts.
