Message of condolence on the death of Consul General Rosalita Sayoc Prospero

We from BAYAN-Canada and Migrante organizations convey our sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late Rosalita Sayoc Prospero, Philippine Consul General to Toronto.

Rosalita Prospero passed away as a career diplomat who served the Filipino community during her time in Canada.

Upon assuming her post in 2015, Prospero opened the Toronto consulate office and lent her ears to an array of issues that affected our kababayans in our host country as well as back home.

She held several dialogues with progressive organizations immediately after she took office and throughout her time as “ConGen”. In 2016, Koalisyon Kontra Dayaan (KKD)–a Filipino-Canadian group against electoral fraud–engaged her office. In summer of that year, her office welcomed Kababayan4Change – a platform that brought an agenda for the betterment of the lives of Filipinos, particularly abroad.

She also met with guests of progressive organizations, including Lumad leader (now congresswoman representing BAYAN Muna partylist) Eufemia Campos Cullamat, Rep. Carlos Zarate, Philippine Independent Church Bishop Antonio Ablon.

She expressed her support for land reform and peace process in the Philippines.

She was informed by compatriots on Philippine national issues to which she made known her concern, and relayed them back to the central government. Through the help of Migrante, ConGen met personally with several undocumented overseas Filipino workers and temporary foreign workers in Canada to seek resolution of their immediate issues. In all of these, she went about her work with humility and honesty.

Maraming salamat po sa serbisyo.
